Free Government Cell Phone Providers

  • Free Government Cell Phone Guide – A list of cell phone companies, providing wireless cell phones, minutes, and government smartphones. See an overview of providers and the states they cover. If you’re low income, you may qualify for the government-subsidized phone program.
  • SafeLink Wireless – Offers free cellphones and plans to eligible applicants: receiving Medicaid, Section 8, Social Security (SSI), Veterans and Survivors pension benefits or food stamps, and meet income requirements. Call 1-800-723-3456 for more information.
  • Assurance Wireless – Offers free cellphones and plans to eligible applicants: receiving Medicaid, Section 8, Social Security (SSI), Veterans and Survivors pension benefits or food stamps, and meet income requirements. Call 1-888-321-5880 for more information.

  • Cricket Wireless – $15/month phone plans available

  • Tracfone Wireless – TracFone has partnered with SafeLink Wireless® to offer assistance for income eligible, if you are a participant in Snap or Medicaid you could qualify.
  • Walgreen’s Landline Calling Card – These calling cards are not for cell phones, they are for landline phones. Call the 800 on the back of the card, with pin#, members can use for phones that are blocked for outgoing calls

West Virginia

  • Tag Mobile – Government assistance to offer wireless services under West Virginia Lifeline Services. Eligible low income families and individuals get discounted cell phone services. Lifeline Services and discounts are offered to qualified West Virginia customers who meet certain eligibility requirements such as, government assistance or a household income that is at or below 135% of the federal poverty level. An individual or family can check their eligibility online either on the federal website or TAG Mobile’s website.   • AT&T – Call 800-288-2020. Offering Internet for telehealth
  • Spectrum Wifi – Offering free WiFi to any students K-12 or in college or any parents with students. Spectrum is waiving late fees and not disconnecting any service for lack of payment. Spectrum has opened all their hotspots for free. Call 1-855-243-8892 for more information.
  • Xfinity Hotspots – Free hotspots during COVID-19
  • Internet Essentials via Comcast – Helps those with low income or those who receive state and/or federal assistance to qualify for 2 months of free internet. Comcast is waiving any late fees and not disconnecting any service for lack of payment, and has opened all their hotspots for free. Call 1-855-846-8376 for more information.
  • Consolidated Communications – Opened their hotspots for free, waiving late fees, no disconnecting service for lack of payment. Call 1-844-968-7224 for more information.
  • Frontier Communications – Frontier is committed to helping qualified low-income individuals pay for telephone or qualified internet services. Lifeline service is a non-transferable (from one person to another) government assistance program that provides a discount on the cost of monthly telephone service only ($7.25) or qualified internet access service with or without telephone service ($9.25). Lifeline is limited to one discount per household and only eligible customers may enroll. Call 855-875-0787 for more information.
