Do your taxes for free through the IRS

IRS Free File is an online tool that helps people submit their taxes on the IRS site. It offers a guided tax preparation process and free fillable forms. To get started, you’ll need a copy of last year’s tax return, all of this year’s tax forms, and valid social security numbers for everyone you’re filing for.

Do your taxes for free through MyFreeTaxes

MyFreeTaxes.com is an online tool and support helpline (866-698-9435) designed to help you submit your tax returns by yourself or — if you’re eligible — with the help of a tax pro. This program is backed by United Way and uses secure technology to keep your personal information safe. That means you can trust it to be legit.

Get help doing your tax return with the IRS VITA program

The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is a free solution offered to select people. You may be eligible if you make less than $60,000 annually, have a disability, or have limited use of English. To get started, you’ll just need to visit the office closest to you and bring a list of basic tax and personal information.

Reduce tax day stress with a filing extension

Won’t be able to submit your taxes by tomorrow? The IRS partners with companies that can help extend your tax submission deadline to October 16, 2023. If you owe money for this tax year, you’ll still need to pay that by April 18, but your full tax return won’t be due for another six months.
