Every person who identifies as LGBTQIA+ needs something different to feel supported. To help as many people as possible, we’ve rounded up a comprehensive list of resources.

Keep reading for national and state-based resources that focus on mental health, recovery, and the unique needs of local LGBTQIA+ communities.

National LGBTQIA+-affirming recovery resources

The following resources support LGBTQIA+ people in recovery across the U.S.:

  • Gay Pink Spots: Gay Pink Spots lists LGBTQIA+-friendly resources. They cover businesses, events, nightlife, travel, legal services, financial services, insurance, and more.
  • Gay and Sober: Gay and Sober provides a safe space for LGBTQIA+ people. Members can gather online and in person to build community, support their health and recovery, and have fun.

The following resource focuses on harm reduction for LGBTQIA+ communities:

The following resources support the mental health and wellness of LGBTQIA+ people:

  • The Trevor Project: The Trevor Project offers crisis counseling, information, and supportive tools for LGBTQIA+ youth.
  • Trans Lifeline: Trans Lifeline is by and for transgender people. It provides peer support for community members and never engages the police.
  • Call BlackLine: Call BlackLine provides peer support and counseling for Black, Indigenous, and people of color. They operate through an LGBTQIA+ Black femme lens.
  • Inclusive Therapists: Inclusive Therapists helps people find therapists who specialize in providing care for their communities.
  • The Deconstructing the Mental Health System PoGM & BIPoC Therapist & Wellness Provider Directory: This directory connects people with affirming providers who are Black, Indigenous, or people of color.
  • Queer Crescent: Queer Crescent provides a supportive space for LGBTQIA+ Muslims who are working toward collective liberation.
  • Therapy for Queer People of Color: Therapy for Queer People of Color connects queer and trans people of color to affirming therapists.

The following resources are dedicated to the states Groups serves. They focus on recovery, mental health, health care, and other important services that help people thrive.

Florida

  • 26Health: 26Health helps people in the LGBTQIA+ community overcome addiction.
  • SunServe: SunServe offers a case management program for people with substance use disorders and/or mental health concerns. They support people with HIV and those who are more likely to be exposed to the virus.
  • Inspire Recovery: Inspire Recovery is an LGBTQIA+ rehab center that provides group and art therapy for LGBTQIA+ people.
  • Zebra Youth: Zebra Youth offers programs to support the mental health, housing, and educational needs of LGBTQIA+ youth.  
  • Equality Florida: Equality Florida is the largest Florida-based civil rights group for LGBTQIA+ community members.

Indiana

  • GenderNexus: GenderNexus provides a safe, inclusive, and supportive space for gender-diverse people and the people who love them.
  • The LGBTQ Center: The LGBTQ Center is the only center in Northern Indiana that centers LGBTQIA+ experiences.
  • Trinity Haven: Trinity Haven offers safe and LGBTQIA+-affirming housing for LGBTQIA+ youth. 
  • Indy Pride: Indy Pride produces events to honor Indianapolis’s LGBTQIA+ history and community. They also provide leadership development and education.

Kentucky

  • The Fairness Campaign: The Fairness Campaign is the LGBTQIA+ advocacy organization for Kentuckians. Through legislative advocacy and public education, they work to advance LGBTQIA+ rights and acceptance 
  • TransKentucky: TransKentucky provides a safe space for transgender and gender-nonconforming people to express their authentic selves.
    • The NKY Pride Center: The NKY Pride Center works to advance LGBTQIA+ equity and inclusion in the region of Northern Kentucky. They do that through community-based services and programs.
    • Sweet Evening Breeze: Sweet Evening Breeze provides housing, hope, and healing for LGBTQIA+ youth ages 18-24.
    • The Trans Health Advocacy Program: The Trans Health Advocacy Program helps trans Kentuckians access health care they need and build community. They focus on the compounding challenges facing trans Kentuckians. These can include racism, classism, ableism, and sizeism.

Maine

  • The Health Equity Alliance: The Health Equity Alliance provides safe spaces, HIV+ care, homeless services, and harm reduction programming.
  • Therapy for the People: Therapy for the People can help Maine residents find LGBTQIA+-affirming and trauma-responsive mental health care.
  • OUT Maine: OUT Maine creates welcoming and affirming communities for LGBTQIA+ youth.
  • MaineTransNet: MaineTransNet is by and for transgender people. They offer peer support groups, events, opportunities for advocacy, and provider training.
  • Equality Maine: Equality Maine protects and advances LGBTQIA+ equality. They do that through political action, community building, education, engagement, and collaboration.

New Hampshire

  • TLC Rural Outright: TLC Rural Outright promotes LGBTQIA+ health and wellness. They do that by connecting community members to community resources and strong social networks.
  • PFLAG NH: PFLAG NH helps parents, children, and friends support their LGBTQIA+ loved ones.
  • The Equality Health Center: The Equality Health Center provides quality, nonjudgmental care. They also work to empower people through advocacy, education, and outreach.

Tennessee

  • The Tennessee Equality Project: The Tennessee Equality Project advocates for the rights of LGBTQIA+ people in Tennessee.
  • Just Us: Just Us helps LGBTQIA+ youth live as their true selves, celebrate their identities, and achieve their full potential.
  • OUTMemphis: OUTMemphis empowers, connects, educates, and advocates for the Mid-South LGBTQIA+ community.

Virginia

  • LGBT Life Center: LGBT Life Center supports and empowers LGBTQIA+ community members and anyone who’s impacted by HIV. They work to improve people’s health, strengthen families and communities, and provide education and advocacy.
  • Equality Virginia: Equality Virginia advocates and organizes alongside LGBTQIA+ Virginians.
  • The Roanoke Diversity Center: The Roanoke Diversity Center supports, educates, empowers, and advocates for LGBTQIA+ communities. They also work with the broader community to make everyone’s lives better.

West Virginia

  • Dr. Rainbow: Dr. Rainbow connects LGBTQIA+ West Virginians with affirming providers and community services.
  • Fairness WV: Fairness WV is a West Virginia-wide civil rights advocacy group. They focus on fair treatment and civil rights for LGBTQIA+ community members. 
  • Rainbow Pride of West Virginia: Rainbow Pride of West Virginia is a community-based volunteer group. It provides LGBTQIA+ community members and allies with health resources, education, advocacy, and more.
  • Project Rainbow: Project Rainbow provides a safe haven for LGBTQIA+ people experiencing homelessness. They can also connect members with gender-affirming care, mental health care, and other life-saving services.
